Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the group access areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Fans can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
